The Préau is a large roofed part of the courtyard, next to La Forge. The name refers to the covered part in a school yard where kids can play when it’s to hot or raining. That’s exactly what it is our’s for – but not just for kids. It stands at a spot where once stood a horse stable – you could still see the marks of the roof on the gable wall of La Forge. The Préau can be used anytime, when you need protection against too much sun or rain, or when you just want to sit in the evening, grilling, eating or playing.
Play: you will find a pool table, a football table that occasionally moves to other places, a cupboard with over a hundred board games, puzzles, skittles, …
Relax: if it’s too hot, you can enjoy the coolness in the shade. When it rains, you can sit here in the dry and watch the raindrops through the wisteria curtain. Otherwise just take the deckchairs with you on the grass and in the sun. In the evening, a log fire protects against the coolness. The old phone booth number 7 of the post office in Dinan has found its place here since summer 2020 (thanks Jean!). It now houses a library with books on the area, wellbeing and novels for adults and kids.
Eat: you can grill in the fireplace or on the grill, tables and chairs can be left under the préau or placed in the sun. When there is something to celebrate, the pool table becomes a buffet and tablecloths, candles etc. come out of the cupboard next to the fireplace. The tables remain separate or move together for a long table.
